Lincoln has been so fascinating to watch lately. He loves to put things into other things. I love watching him as he tries to see what fits, what seems to go together, and what is fun for him. He has quite the imagination.

Exhibit A:

This morning he put one of his socks and some of his toast from breakfast into a pan.

Exhibit B:

A shoe, a musical toy for infant carriers, and a soft building block into the laundry basket.

Exhibit C: The soft rings for his ring stacker toy were put into the compartment in his walker toy. This one is a pretty logical place to put things for a kid, but the things that he puts in there sometimes crack me up.

Exhibit D: A small sauce pan in a drawer. Yes, he can reach up high. A little too high. I am having to make sure that things on the counter are pushed back because he is able to reach them now if they are close to the edge. Yikes.

Exhibit E:

Mega Blocks in his race car track. There is always something funny in this, like bowling pins, stuffed toys, etc. He does the cars too, but loves watching other things spin around.

F: I found some other Mega Blocks in the storage drawer under his crib. There are just little surprises for me everywhere, I'm tellin' ya.

G. Tub animals in a cup. The other day I put a little tub toy (fish) in the cup that we use to pour water over Lincoln. He thought it was AWESOME (seriously) and then continued to put every possible thing around him into the cup.

H. Today we were playing with the sidewalk chalk outside. Lincoln put a piece of the chalk into the trailer hitch on our car. Made me wonder why I didn't think of that. Then it would just be right there the next time we wanted to go play. HA!

I wish I could display/tell about all of the little "hiding spots" that Lincoln has. He is such a little character.

slacking

I know, I know. I haven't posted in a while. The truth is, I either didn't think about it, or I just didn't feel like uploading the pics, etc. Plus, we haven't really been up to anything exciting.

But I will post a few of the most recent pictures (mostly of Lincoln) anyway!
Oh, and by the way, our little Lincoln is walking! He was so close for so long, and took steps a long time ago, but he has finally gotten up the courage to walk all the time now. He just needs to learn to get himself up without pulling up on something. He is close though.

We have had several nice days lately (hallelujah!) and have been able to spend a lot more time outside. 

The other day, we had a picnic in our yard. We brought out a soccer ball and Lincoln's basketball hoop and had a blast. (We were gonna go to a park, but needed to keep it short b/c we had other things going on. The front yard worked great!

Lincoln is obsessed with the rocks in our yard. He loves to hold one in each hand and bang them together.

One afternoon I pulled out the sidewalk chalk that Lincoln got from Donny and Ana for his birthday. He thought it was awesome. He is still in the "put everything in mouth" phase and tried to eat it, so we couldn't play for long.

Lincoln's way of using the chalk is holding it to his side and swinging his arm back and forth. It works though! ha ha

Amber, Donny and Ana came over for St. Patrick's day. Amber had planned some fun little activities for the kids. One of them was to make rainbows out of fruit loops. Lincoln had never had fruit loops, but he loves dry cereal for a snack. He went crazy and seriously ate a TON! He was thrilled.

He was even more thrilled when he discovered the necklace I made for him hanging around his neck.

Lincoln's hair is starting to get long again, and has been a little wild. This is what it looked like the other morning, and let me tell ya...this picture doesn't even come close to doing it justice!

Look at that goofy grin he did for the picture! He is such a ham.

I mentioned in a previous post that Lincoln makes this scrunched up face and huffs and puffs. It's so hilarious. I was able to catch it one day while I was trying to capture his messy face. Love it.

A couple of weeks ago, Derick and Lincoln made a fort. It was basic...a blanket over a table and a tunnel  (from IKEA) leading to it. Lincoln was so excited...he was besides himself. He had so much fun.

I love watching my two boys have fun together.

On another note, Derick is gone for a week. I hate it when he is gone. To make things worse, he is in Pittsburgh, so he is gonna get to see Richie and Krystal, and our new nephew, Graham. I am so jealous.

Anyway, Derick has been able to be home quite a bit lately, and Lincoln has gotten used to having Daddy around more. You may remember how I said that Lincoln calls him "Da" and will say it all the time. He usually knows where Derick is too. Sometimes he will barge in our room when Derick is in there and yell out "DA!" It's too cute. Well, after Derick left yesterday, Lincoln was so sad all day and kept saying "Da." I had to explain to him like a thousand times that Daddy had to leave for a while. It was too precious.

Derick caught this first picture of Lincoln last night after his bath. I was trying to get him to come to me so I could put on his pajamas, but of course, being the active kid that he is, he just wanted to play. So I decided to pull out one of my oldest tricks. Lincoln thinks that peek-a-boo is hilarious, especially when we put something over our head and he gets to pull it off. So I put his jammies over my head and he immediately came over. This is him right before he pulled them off. This has to be one of my favorite pictures of him.
 

 The other day, Lincoln and I drove down to Provo to hang out with my friend, Amber, and her two kids. Lincoln and Donny are just a few months apart, so we like getting them together for play dates. The weather was exceptionally beautiful that day (like in the 60s! Woohoo!) so we decided to pack a lunch and go to a little duck pond that is just a couple blocks from their house on BYU campus.

Lincoln loves to be outside, so he was in his 7th heaven the whole time. I was so proud of him because he sat down and ate his entire lunch like a champ.

This picture has to be the worst ever as far as the lighting goes, but oh well. It was such a cute little place. No I am not really glowing.

  Lincoln was pretty tuckered out after the pond, and fell asleep immediately in the car. Such a handsome little buddy.

 

And then he fell into a deeper sleep. Bless his heart. I don't know how they sleep like that.

Lincoln's most recent obsession is the refrigerator. Every time we open it, he makes a mad dash towards it to try and get in there. He loves it when we have groceries to put away, because it is open for a little longer than normal and he is able to pull all of the jars and bottles out of the bottom shelf of the door. I think his curiosity is so cute, and sometimes I just can't resist letting him have a few seconds in the fridge.

a new project and some other stuff

The other day I was trying to think of a new project that I could work on. I wanted it to be/needed it to be something that wouldn't cost me anything. I started to look through my fabric and couldn't believe how much I had! I had a TON of fabric left over from past projects. I had also collected a bunch of scraps during the summer because the little quilt shop by us sold them for 10 cents. I also had to laugh, because if anyone would have looked through my fabric, they would have been able to tell a couple of things about me. 

1. What my favorite colors are. About 90% of my fabric was a shade of green, orange, blue or brown.

2. I love polka dots. More than half of the patterns are polka dots.

Anyway, what did I decide to make with my mounds of fabric?

A quilt! 

This is my first. Well, that's not true. When I was prego with Lincoln I started to make him one. But then I ran out of time and didn't have any time after having him. And then we were given so many quilts/blankets that were better than the one I was making, that I didn't have the motivation to finish mine. I only need to do the binding on it though so I just need to finish it. 

Anyway...

I decided to just keep this one simple with traditional squares. I spent about 2 nights after L went to bed to cut out around 350 fabric squares.

And then I Derick helped me to lay them out to get the pattern we wanted. I know, it's super crazy. So many colors and patterns. But that's ok. I like things like that. And don't forget this is a no-cost quilt. I'll take anything for free. 

I had debated with the idea of different designs with the squares, or throwing in some white, etc. But since I had so much colored fabric, I just decided to stick with that.

So now I am sewing them all together. I am about 1/3 of the way done. It's going by pretty quickly. I will post more pics as I go along.

In other news...

Lincoln is getting so fun. SO FUN! He is absolutely hilarious. He is such a little goofball.

He is learning to play with his new basketball hoop. I know, that is not a basketball that he is putting in it. But he thinks it's funny when we put his soccer ball in it.

He also loves to play with his new blocks from Grandpa. He likes when Derick builds a tower, so that he can then knock it over.

Last night, Derick and Lincoln built a fort. Stay tuned.

fat lip

The other night Derick and Lincoln were rolling around playing on the floor. Lincoln fell and hit his face on something (well, it was actually the electronic Catch Phrase game...of all things). He gave himself a fat lip. It's hard to tell in this picture, but the center of his upper lip is super fat. It also got really bloody, as you can see by my shirt. Thank goodness he was fine after just a couple of minutes, and his lip looked fine the next day.

About the same percentiles he had at his 9-month check-up....just bigger measurements. He's definitely a big boy.

He is getting to be so fun and is doing so many new things.

1. He is making a hilarious scowl face at everyone.
2. He makes an equally hilarious/goofy grin.
3. He copies everything. The other day Derick and I started laughing in the car and so Lincoln started to        laugh too.
4. He is starting to be able to reach things on the countertops and stove top (yikes!)
5. He isn't walking yet. He has taken several steps and will walk a ton while holding onto something, or while using his walker. Most of the time he just decides that he would rather crawl.
6. Usually Derick is in the shower when Lincoln wakes up, so I grab Lincoln and take him into the bathroom to say hi. Our shower door is low enough and Derick is tall enough so that he can say hi to Lincoln over the top. The other day I walked into the bathroom with Lincoln to grab some laundry, but Derick had already left for the day. Lincoln was reaching for the shower, thinking and hoping that his Daddy would be in there to say hi. So cute.
7. Lincoln said Mama first, but now he mostly says Dada. Actually he just says "Da." Whenever he wants Derick's attention he will say "Da." It's too funny.
8. Lincoln seems to know when it's Saturday, and he knows that Daddy will be home. When he wakes up, he calls Derick by saying "Da."
9. Today I took Lincoln for a walk (it got up to 50 degrees...hallelujah!) and we saw some horses at one of the houses. He was so fascinated and when I started to move away from them he started to cry.
10. He will purse his lips, scrunch his face, and huff and puff and loves it when we do it back.
11. One of his new favorite foods? Tater tots. I mentioned that we had them for his b-day. He loves them. He loves to dip things in ketchup. He also goes crazy for the Baby Bell cheeses and cottage cheese.
12. He loves cars.
13. He is learning to throw. It's so cute when he tries with all his might to throw a ball and it barely goes anywhere (hard to get a grip). But watch out, because he can throw his food across the room.
14. He has a tiny toy tractor, and loves to hold it when we go for walks. Some of our neighbors are doing some stuff in their yard, and they have a tractor sitting out front. When I showed Lincoln the comparison between his and the huge one, he thought it was awesome.
15. His feet are seriously too fat for any shoes. Even some of the soft ones.
16. He will dance any time he hears a beat. It doesn't even have to be music.
17. He constantly says "Dat?" (What's that?) while holding up something for us to see and tell him what it is.
18. He loves to roll around on our big down comforter. He things it's so awesome. He will lay on his back, kick his legs, and giggle, thinking he's so hilarous.
19. He loves to play with the rocks in our front yard.
20. Tonight my Dad came over to give Lincoln a birthday gift (a huge thing of Mega Blocks...totally awesome). Lincoln got all shy and hid behind my leg. So funny! He has never done that before.
21. He is learning to color. He always gets upset on Sundays when we let our primary kids use crayons and we don't let him (he just wants to eat them). Well, I have been introducing Lincoln to drawing/coloring lately and on Sunday I let him have a crayon. He was ecstatic. I bought him some crayons today and he had a lot of fun. However, he did have a blue mouth after a couple of minutes. Thank goodness for non-toxic and washable crayons!
22. He doesn't always focus on books when I am reading them, but he does love any books with flaps inside. He loves to open them.
23. He loves to "brush" his teeth while we are brushing ours. When he sees the way that we move the toothbrush around in our mouths, he tries to do it too.
24. He was way too fast for me this morning and he reached his hand in the toilet water. Ugh! Yuck! I washed them like 3 times.
25. He loves to bang on the bathroom door while one of us is in there, and then have the person in there bang back.

I know there are more. I will have to keep adding.
