just when you think your day can't get any worse...

We have had one heck of a day. Seriously. You need to read this whole thing to get the full effect.

It started out with Lincoln waking up early. Not a huge deal, but he's more grouchy when that happens. His birthday is tomorrow and since it's Sunday, we decided to do some fun things today. It was freezing here today, so we had to come up with indoor things to do. We decided to go to the library (Lincoln loves it) for Saturday story time. After story time, we got some donuts from our favorite place here in Blacksburg, which could quite possibly be our favorite place period.

Not a bad start to the day, right??

By this point, it was about noon. Lincoln was exhausted...he usually takes his naps around noon, and he woke up early today, so he was really tired. We got home and I started to fix a quick lunch before nap time. Derick and Lincoln were playing, and {sparing some details} Lincoln fell on his head. On the tile. It made a horrible noise. He started acting really funny so we felt that we needed to take him in. Derick drove as fast as possible to the E.R. While we were waiting for the doctor, Lincoln threw up. Everywhere. I was literally covered from my neck to my knees in puke. The smell made me almost throw up. At least Lincoln could take his clothes off and get away from it. I wish I could have done that. Kind of.

The doctor said that Lincoln had a concussion, but that it didn't seem to be anything to worry about. After he threw up he actually started responding better, so we were feeling better too. He was finally able to go to sleep in my arms for the rest of the time that we were there. We got home around 2. One thing that you have to know about LIncoln is that once he wakes up from a nap, he won't go back down, no matter how long the nap was. 5 minutes? Doesn't matter. He won't go back to sleep. So he only got a 45-minute nap at the hospital. And that's not long enough. Especially since he woke up early. So he was slightly grouchy from that the rest of the day. Oh, and he probably had a headache too. Sigh.

Moving on....

I had tons of stuff to do for Lincoln's bday tomorrow. We are having some of our friends and the missionaries over {I signed up to feed them not realizing that it was Lincoln's bday, but they are super cool and are over here quite a bit anyway, so it's fine}. There won't be any other kids, but Lincoln will just be happy to have other people. Anyway, I started to work on this long list of things to do. I then headed out to the store to get some last-minute items and I grabbed us some dinner. My day was so thrown off that I didn't know how I was going to get everything done.

We then found out some sad family news....I'm not going to get into the details, but just know that it was very heartbreaking for all of us. So that put another damper on the day.

We then got Lincoln to bed about an hour early. Yeah. Things were looking up. Derick started to put together the train table that we got a while back and have saved for Lincoln's birthday. We were so excited for him to see it because lately he has been talking about Grammy and Papa's train table that he used to play with so much.

Then the missionaries showed up. Derick had called them earlier to help give Lincoln a blessing, but they couldn't come until tonight. Lincoln was already in bed, so they were going to just stay a few minutes.

Then Lincoln woke up. Sigh.
I went upstairs to get him because since the missionaries were here, we could give him a blessing. I yelled down to Derick to hide the train table because I didn't want Lincoln to see it.

He yelled back up to me to say that he had just cut his hand. I don't know exactly what he was doing, but it involved a knife. There was a LOT of blood and it was deep. He needed stitches. Gulp. So E.R. trip #2 was in order.

They quickly gave Lincoln a blessing. I then saw the knife that Derick cut his hand on and I went to move it to the kitchen, while holding LIncoln. What I wasn't thinking about was the fact that that's where they hid the train table so that Lincoln wouldn't see it. So he saw it. So much for a surprise. Thankfully I was able to somehow make him forget about it, which never happens.

The Elders said that they would take Derick to the hospital. On they way over, they were able to get a hold of a member of the ward who is doing his rotations for med school and has already performed some surgeries. He said that he would stitch Derick up. So they stopped at CVS to get alcohol, etc. This is great because it will be quicker and save us a fortune. It's not so great because Derick won't be numb for the stitches.

After they left and went and laid down with Lincoln for a while. I was finally able to come back downstairs and when I saw the huge mess of dishes and food that I am not even close to be done preparing, I decided to write this post instead.

And now Lincoln is crying again. Sigh.

Oh gosh that stinks!! How scary! Well if it makes you feel even the tiniest bit better we had an off day too with short naps, cranky kids, and then Elle pooped in the bathtub...always fun to clean up. Ok definitely not comparable to a concussion and stitches but my heart goes out to you! I hope you guys have a great day tomorrow to make up for it all! Give little Lincoln a kiss for me!

:( That does not sound like a fun day. Maybe you should just move back to Mesa AZ or something. Bet none of that would have happened there... JK! Hope the birthday party went well! You are a trooper Cheryl.
