potty trained! (kinda)

Lincoln is potty trained now. Partially. I had been dreading the day that I would start to train him, and kind of pushed it to the back burner. When I was gone one night, he told Derick that he needed to go pee. Derick took him to the toilet and he did it! I couldn't believe it when Derick told me. So that was my sign...I knew it was time. I woke up one morning (August 16th) and knew that I didn't have anything going on that day or the next (a rarity) and so I decided to go for it. I hadn't really planned much, so that morning I headed out and bought more underwear and treats. During Lincoln's nap I read some things online. After naptime, we started. I used various methods: setting a timer for every 10-15 minutes (which actually really helped Lincoln be aware), having him be totally naked, treats and small toys for rewards, etc. By the end of Thursday, I was feeling pretty confident. Then Friday came. I wanted to rip my hair out on Friday! He started to improve by the end of the day, but I knew there was still some work to be done. We had a ton of stuff to do on Saturday and of course church on Sunday, and I knew Lincoln wasn't totally ready to only use underwear for all of that, so I used diapers. Bad, I know. But I had to. I set aside the next Thursday, Friday and Saturday to start over with his training. However, over the next few days, he began to really do well. I didn't have to stay strictly at home on those 3 days because he was doing so well.

Now, a month later, he is doing great with pee, but we still have some improvements to make. He still has several poop accidents. I don't know why, but he hesitates with pooping. He is getting much better, though. Hopefully that continues. He also isn't trained for nighttime or  naps. He will wake up wet every time and I got pretty tired of changing sheets every day. So that's the main thing we need to work on.

Overall, potty training wasn't nearly as scary as I thought it would be.

Lincoln would never let me get pictures of him in his undies, so I snapped some one day while we were playing on our deck (his favorite place to play).
