An unexpected trip to DC

Here's a quick not-so-funny (at the time) story. Derick was leaving to go to Chile in about a week. He had had his passport out on our dresser for another purpose, and neither one of us put it away. One day, when I went to get it to get things organized for his trip, it was gone. We tore the house apart searching for it. I can't tell you the level of stress that we had. We called the DC passport agency and scheduled an emergency appointment. Thankfully,  I felt like I should tell Derick to talk to an actual person, because when you just called and listed to the recording, it said that the appointments were booked a couple of weeks out. Derick had a crazy busy week, but rearranged it so that we could head up to DC and get him a new passport. He had already booked his ($2500) flight, which was on our credit card because he had to get reimbursed. If we didn't get him a passport and get him to Chile, we would have had to eat that cost!

Thankfully, everything worked out. We just had to wait a few hours after his appointment to get the actual passport, but that was okay with us. Just as long as we got one, we were fine! Once he had the appointment and we knew that he was going to get his passport, we actually really enjoyed our time in the city, like we always do. We walked over to the White House and looked around, and also went to the Museum of Natural History, which Lincoln LOVES.

It was a quick, slightly stressful, and exhausting trip, but it was fun and it was a nice little getaway for our family.
